About Alternative Racing Merchandise, Shirts and Apparel

Some of the best racing stories do not begin in a conventional paddock. They begin beside a hydroplane on the Ohio River, in a hangar at Roswell, beside a stand-up ski at Lake Havasu, in a heated snowmobile trailer at Eagle River, in the Figure 8 pits on the east side of Indianapolis, or on the salt at Bonneville.

This is the merchandise marketplace for those corners of motorsports.

Shop racing shirts, hats, hoodies, jackets, teamwear and fan apparel connected to alternative motorized competition with a human driver, rider or pilot. That can include air racing and STOL, offshore powerboats and hydroplanes, PWC and jet ski racing, snowmobile and snocross, Figure 8 and demolition derby, swamp buggy and mud racing, lawn mower racing, hill climb, land speed, big-rig racing and selected monster truck teams and events.

Shop the Racing You Actually Follow

Other Racing is intentionally broad because the people in these disciplines do not all speak the same language or race in the same environment.

A hydroplane fan may be looking for a team shirt from a summer regatta. A PWC family may want rider apparel after a weekend at Lake Havasu. A snocross racer may sell hoodies to help fund the next trip north. A Figure 8 driver may have shirts printed for the World Figure 8 weekend at Indianapolis Speedrome. A land-speed team can turn a record attempt at Bonneville into shirts and hats that help tell the story long after the salt is washed off the trailer.

Listings may include:

  • Racing T-shirts and long-sleeve shirts
  • Team and driver shirts
  • Pilot and air-racing apparel

  • Snocross and snowmobile racing hoodies

From Roswell to Havasu, Bonneville to the Speedrome

The appeal of this family is the variety.

The National Championship Air Races now compete at Roswell Air Center, where seven classes range from Unlimited and Sport to Jet, T-6, Formula 1, Biplane and STOL Drag. Marine racing stretches from APBA offshore events at Atlantic City, Michigan City, Clearwater, Englewood and Key West to H1 Unlimited weekends in Madison, the Tri-Cities, Seattle and San Diego. PWC racing brings stand-up skis and runabouts together at events such as the IJSBA World Finals in Lake Havasu City.

Winter has its own culture. Snocross teams race Pro, Pro Lite, Pro AM Women, Sport and youth classes, while oval and vintage snowmobile racers build their own communities around events such as Eagle River and Valcourt. Figure 8 racing has its own heroes, families and traditions at Indianapolis Speedrome, including the three-hour World Figure 8 endurance race. Land-speed racers chase numbers at Bonneville and El Mirage, while lawn mower racers can spend a summer night fighting for inches on equipment that started life with an entirely different job.

Those differences should show up in the merchandise. A generic racing shirt is one thing. A shirt that means something to a driver, team, pilot, rider, hometown track or racing family is another.

Buying Alternative Motorsports Apparel

Before purchasing, review the listing for:

  • Racing discipline represented
  • Team, driver, rider, pilot, event or organization
  • Product type and brand
  • Men's, women's, youth or unisex sizing
  • Size chart and garment measurements
  • Material and garment weight
  • New or used condition
  • Color and design
  • Screen print, embroidery, sublimation or other decoration method
  • Official, licensed, team-produced or independent status when claimed
  • Event year or season when relevant
  • Personalization or made-to-order options
  • Shipping location and fulfillment time
  • Return or exchange policy

A seller using a recognizable event, team, sponsor, driver, pilot, boat, aircraft or vehicle identity should accurately describe the rights behind the product. Do not assume a shirt is officially licensed simply because it displays familiar racing imagery.

Vintage, signed, race-used or team-issued apparel can cross into collector territory. If the main reason to buy it is provenance rather than wearing it, browse Other Racing Collectibles & Memorabilia.

Selling Merchandise From Your Racing Program

For many alternative racing teams, merchandise is not just fan gear. It is a practical way to turn a loyal local following into another source of support.

A boat team can sell shirts at a regatta. A derby driver can give local sponsors another place to be seen. A mower-racing family can offer team shirts at the fairgrounds. A PWC rider can sell hats and tees online between events. A hill-climb or land-speed program can give supporters something connected to a specific build, record attempt or season.

Strong listings should identify:

  • Racing discipline
  • Team, competitor, event or brand represented
  • Product type
  • Available sizes
  • Material and garment specifications
  • Print or embroidery details
  • New or used condition
  • Official or licensed status only when supportable
  • Personalization options
  • Inventory quantity or made-to-order status
  • Production and fulfillment timing
  • Shipping regions
  • Return or exchange terms

Only offer logos, photos, names, signatures, sponsor marks, aircraft or boat liveries and other protected material that you have the right to sell or reproduce.

Signed, vintage, race-used, limited or provenance-driven items belong in Other Racing Collectibles & Memorabilia when collector value is the main reason to buy them.

Helmets, firesuits, PFDs, restraints, body protection and other active competition safety products belong in Other Racing Firesuits, Helmets & Safety Gear.

Finished physical race numbers, decal kits, printed wraps, sponsor graphics and signs belong in Other Racing Graphics, Decals & Specialty Items.

Complete race boats, aircraft, sleds, PWC, specialty race cars and other competition vehicles belong in Other Racing Race Vehicles for Sale.
