Marketplace Fees

Learn about our seller fees, the off-platform lead fee, shipping treatment, payment costs, refunds, and transaction assistance.

Making motorsports commerce easier to use for everyone

One simple marketplace fee. Built to put value back into racing.

RaceTeams.com is built to help race teams, drivers, tracks, series, service providers, manufacturers, suppliers, sponsors, and fans connect and do business.

Our fee structure is designed around two principles: RaceTeams should be paid when RaceTeams creates or facilitates commercial value, and marketplace growth should help strengthen the racing community that creates that value.

1. Current RaceTeams fees

At launch:

  • Buyer RaceTeams marketplace service fee: 0%
  • Seller Marketplace Service Fee for eligible paid standard marketplace transactions: 14.9% all-in
  • Standard RaceTeams checkout and ordinary card-processing / Stripe transaction costs: included in the 14.9% Seller Marketplace Service Fee
  • Marketplace-Originated Lead Fee for qualifying off-platform transactions: 10%
  • Recurring marketplace subscription fee: None

RaceTeams does not currently add a separate standard card-processing surcharge to the Seller or Buyer for ordinary transactions completed through the standard RaceTeams marketplace checkout. RaceTeams pays ordinary standard Stripe payment-processing and related standard checkout costs from the 14.9% Seller Marketplace Service Fee.

Shipping, logistics, inspection, title, escrow, taxes, duties, insurance, specialized payment methods, and other Seller or third-party charges may still apply when separately disclosed.

2. The 14.9% all-in Seller Marketplace Service Fee

When an eligible paid transaction is completed through RaceTeams using the standard marketplace checkout, RaceTeams charges the Seller a 14.9% Marketplace Service Fee on the transaction value to which the applicable marketplace commission is applied.

For the standard Sharetribe Shop purchase flow, a fixed shipping charge entered by the Seller is generally paid by the Buyer and is not included in Sharetribe's percentage provider-commission calculation.

Example: a $1,000 set of used race shocks

For a $1,000 eligible item transaction, before shipping, taxes, refunds, or other applicable adjustments:

  • Item price: $1,000
  • RaceTeams all-in Seller Marketplace Service Fee at 14.9%: $149
  • Seller proceeds before other applicable adjustments: $851
  • Buyer RaceTeams marketplace service fee: $0

Standard RaceTeams checkout and ordinary card-processing / Stripe transaction costs are included in the $149 RaceTeams fee. The Seller is not charged a separate standard RaceTeams card-processing fee for that ordinary transaction.

RaceTeams' Marketplace Service Fee helps support marketplace access, discovery, lead generation, transaction infrastructure, payment facilitation, marketplace support, fraud and risk management, platform development, and qualified racing-community Promoter Programs.

3. Standard payment processing is included

RaceTeams uses Stripe through Sharetribe for standard marketplace payments and Seller payouts. Stripe and other Payment Providers charge RaceTeams payment-processing and related costs under their then-current pricing, configuration, and rules.

For ordinary eligible transactions completed through the standard RaceTeams marketplace checkout, RaceTeams pays those standard processing costs from the 14.9% Seller Marketplace Service Fee. RaceTeams does not currently add a separate standard payment-processing surcharge to the Seller or Buyer for those transactions.

Specialized transactions may involve additional third-party costs, including:

  • Escrow
  • Wire or ACH services outside standard checkout
  • Currency conversion
  • International payment costs
  • Inspection or appraisal
  • Title or lien services
  • Shipping or freight
  • Insurance
  • Expedited or specialized payout services
  • Other professional or transaction services

Those costs are not necessarily included in the 14.9% RaceTeams Marketplace Service Fee and will be separately disclosed when applicable.

4. Putting marketplace value back into racing

RaceTeams believes the racing economy should help support the people, organizations, events, and competitors that make racing possible.

Through qualified RaceTeams Promoter Programs, RaceTeams may share up to 25% of eligible RaceTeams Marketplace Service Fee revenue with participating racetracks, racing series, event promoters, sanctioning bodies, and other approved racing organizations that help generate qualifying marketplace activity.

The Promoter Program share is calculated from the eligible RaceTeams Marketplace Service Fee, not from the gross sale price. It does not create an additional standard Buyer marketplace fee and does not increase the Seller's 14.9% Marketplace Service Fee.

Example: the same $1,000 shock sale

If the $1,000 eligible shock transaction qualifies under a RaceTeams Promoter Program providing a 25% share of the eligible RaceTeams fee:

  • RaceTeams Marketplace Service Fee: $149
  • 25% Promoter Program share of that eligible RaceTeams fee: up to $37.25

That Promoter Program payment comes from RaceTeams' fee. It is not an additional charge to the Seller or Buyer.

Ten similar $1,000 transactions would represent $10,000 in eligible marketplace sales and $1,490 in RaceTeams Marketplace Service Fees. Under a qualifying 25% Promoter Program, the participating racing organization could receive up to $372.50 from that eligible RaceTeams fee revenue.

And that is only one category of marketplace activity. A racing community may also generate qualifying commerce through parts, equipment, new racing supplies, merchandise, collectibles, services, bookings, experiences, and fan purchases.

Promoter Program proceeds can help participating organizations strengthen their racing communities through initiatives such as points funds, purses, prizes, special awards, and other racer- or competitor-support programs, subject to the applicable program terms. Unless a separate program agreement requires a specific use, RaceTeams does not guarantee how every recipient will allocate its program proceeds.

5. Buyer-paid shipping, logistics, and Seller charges

Buyers are responsible for shipping, delivery, freight, travel, materials, facility charges, activation costs, deposits, customization, inspection, title, insurance, duties, taxes, and other incremental charges that the Seller or an independent third party clearly discloses before the Buyer commits.

A Seller may not add a material mandatory charge after commitment unless the Buyer expressly agrees and the charge is permitted by law and the transaction process.

Optional upgrades must be clearly identified as optional.

6. Marketplace-Originated Lead Fee: 10%

RaceTeams invests in creating Buyer-Seller connections. A Seller may not use RaceTeams to generate a lead and then move the resulting transaction outside the platform solely to avoid the RaceTeams marketplace fee.

A 10% Marketplace-Originated Lead Fee is owed by the Seller when all of the following apply:

  1. RaceTeams introduced or connected the Buyer and Seller through a Listing, inquiry, message, lead, referral, or other Service activity;
  2. the Buyer and Seller, or their affiliates, later complete the same or a substantially related transaction outside RaceTeams;
  3. the transaction closes within 12 months after the first documented RaceTeams introduction or contact between those parties concerning the opportunity; and
  4. the transaction was not processed through RaceTeams and therefore did not generate the 14.9% Seller Marketplace Service Fee.

The Lead Fee is calculated on the gross consideration paid to the Seller for the Offering or substantially related commercial transaction, excluding:

  • Sales or similar taxes collected for a taxing authority
  • Actual shipping, freight, or logistics charges separately stated and passed through without markup
  • Independent third-party escrow, inspection, appraisal, title, lien-search, or registration charges separately stated to the Buyer

If consideration includes a trade, credit, in-kind value, or another non-cash component, RaceTeams may use the value assigned by the parties or another reasonable documented value.

Lead Fee exceptions

The 10% Lead Fee does not apply when:

  • the Seller can reasonably document that the Buyer-Seller relationship and active negotiation for the same Offering materially predated the RaceTeams connection;
  • RaceTeams expressly waives the fee in writing;
  • the transaction is paid through RaceTeams and the 14.9% Seller Marketplace Service Fee applies; or
  • applicable law prohibits the fee or charging a contingent lead fee for the particular asset or transaction would require a license, registration, or regulatory authority RaceTeams does not hold.

Because motor-vehicle and other regulated-asset laws can treat contingent sale-based compensation differently from ordinary marketplace or advertising fees, RaceTeams will not apply the 10% success-based Lead Fee to a motor-vehicle or other regulated transaction to the extent RaceTeams determines that doing so would require a license, registration, or regulatory authority RaceTeams does not hold. In that situation, RaceTeams may use only a different lawful fee structure disclosed before the applicable service or may waive the Lead Fee.

The Seller must not conceal, mischaracterize, route through an affiliate, or split a transaction to avoid the Lead Fee. RaceTeams may request records reasonably necessary to determine whether the fee applies and the amount of the transaction.

7. Reporting an off-platform closing

A Seller who completes a Marketplace-Originated Transaction outside RaceTeams must notify RaceTeams at support@raceteams.com within 10 calendar days after closing and provide the information reasonably necessary to calculate the Lead Fee. RaceTeams will provide payment instructions or an invoice.

Failure to report or pay an applicable fee may result in collection activity, offset against future amounts otherwise payable to the Seller, account restriction, suspension, or termination, subject to the Terms of Service and applicable law.

8. Standard cancellations and refunds

RaceTeams uses the transaction processes supported by its live Sharetribe marketplace configuration. When an eligible transaction is canceled through the standard RaceTeams / Sharetribe flow before the transaction is completed, the cancellation generally initiates a full refund of the original Buyer marketplace payment as supported by the transaction process.

RaceTeams does not currently support partial cash refunds through the standard marketplace cancellation flow. Sellers should not promise a partial RaceTeams cash refund unless RaceTeams later introduces a supported process and updates this page.

Payment-processing costs paid by RaceTeams may not be returned to RaceTeams when a payment is refunded. RaceTeams may recover unreimbursed Payment Provider costs from a Seller where the Terms, transaction disclosures, provider rules, and law permit, including when a loss resulted from the Seller's fraud, material misrepresentation, prohibited conduct, repeated unjustified cancellations, or another material breach.

The parties may agree to a lawful reschedule, replacement, credit, make-good, or other resolution. After a transaction is completed or payout has occurred, RaceTeams may have limited ability to reverse funds through the Service.

9. Chargebacks, reserves, and financial adjustments

Formal payment disputes and chargebacks are governed by Stripe, the applicable bank, card issuer, card network, or other Payment Provider.

A Seller may be responsible for:

  • The disputed transaction amount
  • Chargeback or dispute fees
  • Negative balances
  • Refunds caused by Seller nonperformance
  • Losses caused by fraud or misrepresentation
  • Costs associated with prohibited or unlawful Listings
  • Amounts RaceTeams is required to repay to a Payment Provider because of the Seller's transaction

RaceTeams may withhold, offset, reserve, invoice, or recover such amounts as permitted by the Terms, Payment Provider rules, transaction disclosures, and applicable law.

10. Seller payouts

Seller payouts are processed through Stripe or another disclosed Payment Provider. Payout timing may depend on:

  • Transaction completion
  • Payment Provider requirements
  • Account onboarding and verification
  • Fraud and risk controls
  • Refund or dispute status
  • The Seller's payout schedule
  • Applicable law

RaceTeams does not guarantee immediate payout availability.

11. Optional high-value Transaction Assistance

Some race cars, trailers, equipment, sponsorships, and other high-value opportunities may benefit from additional support beyond a standard marketplace Listing. RaceTeams may separately offer Transaction Assistance under a written agreement.

Depending on the transaction and what is legally permitted, Transaction Assistance may include administrative coordination such as:

  • Organizing communications and transaction milestones
  • Coordinating independent inspections or appraisals
  • Helping the parties collect ownership, title, lien, specification, or condition records
  • Coordinating with an independent escrow, payment, transportation, insurance, legal, title, or other professional provider
  • Maintaining a transaction checklist or data room
  • Assisting with scheduling, document exchange, and closing logistics

RaceTeams is not an attorney, title company, escrow agent, bank, mechanic, appraiser, insurer, or fiduciary merely because it provides Transaction Assistance. RaceTeams will not represent or negotiate for a party as a broker or agent unless a separate written agreement expressly authorizes that role, the service is legally permitted, and any required licensing or regulatory conditions have been satisfied.

Transaction Assistance may involve a separate flat, hourly, success-based, or other fee stated in the written agreement. Unless the agreement expressly says otherwise, an applicable 14.9% RaceTeams Marketplace Service Fee or 10% Marketplace-Originated Lead Fee remains separate from the Transaction Assistance fee. RaceTeams will disclose the applicable fee structure before the User accepts the service.

12. Promoter and referral programs

RaceTeams may operate RaceTeams Promoter Programs and other referral, ambassador, or community-partner programs under separate program terms. RaceTeams may use a referral provider such as Tapfiliate to attribute qualifying activity and calculate program rewards, and a payout provider such as Trolley to distribute approved program payments.

RaceTeams may share up to 25% of eligible RaceTeams Marketplace Service Fee revenue with qualifying Promoter Program participants. Shipping, taxes, duties, and other separately stated third-party charges are not included in the commissionable RaceTeams fee unless the applicable program terms expressly state otherwise.

Unless RaceTeams expressly states otherwise, a Promoter Program or referral reward is paid by RaceTeams from RaceTeams revenue and does not reduce the Seller Marketplace Service Fee, change the Buyer price, or create a separate Buyer marketplace fee. Program eligibility, attribution windows, ongoing customer-attribution rules, commission rates, approval rules, reversals, minimum payout thresholds, permitted-use restrictions where applicable, and payment timing are governed by the applicable program terms.

13. Subscriptions and optional services

RaceTeams does not currently charge a recurring marketplace subscription fee. Future subscriptions, enhanced Listings, advertising, promotional services, referral programs, enterprise services, or other paid features will be disclosed before enrollment or purchase.

A new fee will not be retroactively applied to a completed transaction unless the User agrees or applicable law permits or requires it.

14. Fee changes

RaceTeams may update fees prospectively. The fees displayed or accepted before the User commits to a transaction control that transaction, subject to applicable law and any separate written agreement.
