About Sprint Car Engines, 410s & Drivetrains

Few purchases change a sprint car program faster than an engine or rear-end package.

A 410 team may carry more than one high-dollar engine on the road. A 360 racer may spend the winter deciding whether to refresh what they own or buy a proven spare. A RaceSaver team may need a legal sealed engine that keeps the whole program affordable. A midget team may be shopping a specialized national engine, while a micro sprint family is comparing motorcycle engines, spares and complete power packages.

Shop sprint car engines and major drivetrain assemblies on RaceTeams.com, including 410, 360, 305, midget, micro sprint and pavement applications.

This page is for physical complete or substantially complete engines and major drivetrain assemblies. Engine building, rebuilding, dyno work, tuning and gearbox or rear-end service belong under Sprint Car Engine Builders and Drivetrain Services.

410 Sprint Car Engines

The 410 sprint car engine is one of the highest-value pieces in short-track racing.

Listings may include complete 410 engines, fresh or used race engines, sealed or documented team spares, long blocks and complete engine packages with injection, magneto, pumps, headers or accessories when included.

Current 410 racing spans winged series such as the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and High Limit Racing, non-wing competition such as USAC, regional 410 tours and pavement sprint programs. The engine specification, accessories and service expectations can vary with the application.

Sellers should identify builder, cubic inches, block and head combination, crank, rods and pistons where known, injection system, magneto, oiling system, water pump, headers if included, races or hours since freshening, total history where known, dyno information if available, known failures, repairs and exactly what comes with the engine.

A dyno sheet is useful documentation, not a guarantee of future output or reliability.

360 Sprint Car Engines

The 360 market is one of the largest engine economies in sprint car racing.

ASCS and regional 360 series, Knoxville 360 competition, California 360 racing, Northeast tours and weekly tracks create steady demand for complete engines, spares and team sell-offs.

Listings may include fresh 360s, used team engines, spare motors, complete injection packages and engines configured for specific regional rules.

Sellers should state the rule package or series where the engine previously competed when accurate, but buyers must verify current legality. Head, block, injection, compression, fuel, weight and other rules can change or differ between series.

305 and RaceSaver Engines

The 305 engine market is important because it lowers the barrier to full-size sprint racing.

Listings may include IMCA RaceSaver-style engines, local 305 engines, sealed packages, limited sprint engines and crate-style combinations where those classes are active.

For a RaceSaver or other controlled engine, seals, paperwork, approved components and build history can matter as much as the parts inside. Sellers should identify seal status, builder, refresh history, dyno information where available and any known issues.

Buyers should independently verify that a used engine still meets the exact rules and seal requirements of the events they plan to enter.

Midget Racing Engines

Midget engines are specialized, expensive and often closely tied to chassis, electronics and series rules.

Listings may include Toyota/TRD-style midget engines, Stanton/SR-11-style packages, Esslinger, Fontana, Kistler, Mopar and other correctly represented midget engines and complete power packages.

USAC, POWRi and major events such as the Chili Bowl create a national midget market where engine history and support matter. Sellers should provide builder, model or specification, hours or races, refresh history, electronics included, injection, pumps, exhaust if included, spares and any technical documentation.

Micro Sprint and Mini Sprint Engines

Micro sprint racing creates a very different engine market.

Listings may include 600cc Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Honda motorcycle-based engines used in winged, non-wing, A-Class, Restricted and Outlaw micro sprint programs, along with 1000cc or 1200cc-style engines used in mini and lightning sprints where appropriate.

A strong listing should identify donor engine family, displacement, internal modifications, oiling system, injection or throttle-body setup, wiring or ECU included, clutch or drive components, hours or races, rebuild history and known issues.

Do not assume an engine is legal for a Tulsa Shootout or local class simply because it is a 600cc motorcycle engine. Rules may control displacement, age, injection, internal modifications, RPM limits, restrictors and other details.

Sprint Car Quick-Change Rear Ends

Full-size dirt sprint cars do not use a conventional production-car transmission setup, so the drivetrain section has to speak the right language.

Listings may include complete quick-change rear ends, center sections, complete rear-end assemblies, in-out boxes where applicable, torque tubes, complete driveline assemblies and other major systems sold as units.

Buyers should verify rear-end width, axle configuration, gear family, brake arrangement, torque tube compatibility, couplers, splines, bearings and condition.

Individual gears, bearings, axles, U-joints, torque balls, radius rods and similar components belong under Sprint Car Racing Parts, Wheels and Tires unless they are included as part of a major assembly.

Pavement Sprint Car Drivetrains

Pavement sprint cars can use different driveline, brake and cooling strategies than dirt cars, especially in longer races.

Listings may include pavement 410 engines, complete rear-end assemblies, driveline components sold as complete systems and engine packages configured for winged or non-wing asphalt competition.

Series such as the 500 Sprint Car Tour and Must See Racing provide useful context for this specialized market. Sellers should state the actual prior application and configuration without assuming a buyer's current rules are identical.

Complete Engine and Drivetrain Packages

Some sellers may offer a package that includes engine, injection, headers, ignition, pumps, rear end, torque tube, spare gears and other major components.

These can be valuable for someone building a car or buying into a class, but the seller should inventory the package clearly. "Complete" should never force the buyer to guess whether the magneto, injection, fuel pump, headers, oil tank, lines, couplers or rear-end gears are included.

Used Engines and Team Spares

Used sprint car engines can represent major value, but service history matters.

Sellers should disclose races or hours since freshening where known, total known history, overheats, oil-pressure issues, bearing failures, valve-train problems, crash damage, repairs, dyno results, storage history and whether the engine should be inspected before competition use.

For a team spare, say whether it was kept ready to race, used only for backup, removed because of a problem or simply sold as part of a program change.

What Sellers Should Include

A strong engine or drivetrain listing should include builder or manufacturer, displacement, class application, build or refresh date, races or hours, major specifications, seals or documentation where relevant, injection, ignition, oiling, cooling, headers or accessories included, dyno information if available, known issues, repairs, storage history, rear-end configuration where applicable, included gears or spares, shipping or pickup details and price.

Sellers should not guarantee horsepower, remaining engine life, race readiness, class legality or future reliability.

What Buyers Should Review

Before buying, review builder reputation, specification, service history, current rules, seals, hours, known failures, oiling, injection, ignition, cooling, accessories, rear-end fitment, gear family, couplers, condition, shipping and installation requirements.

RaceTeams.com does not inspect, dyno, verify or guarantee sprint car engines, 410 engines, 360 engines, 305 engines, midget engines, micro sprint engines, quick-change rear ends, driveline assemblies, seals, service history, horsepower, compatibility, class legality, seller claims, shipping or purchase outcomes.
